Italy and its Lute-makers and theatrical artisans

Italy and music: an intense link that continues in the name of excellence.

What of the great tradition of Cremona, known and admired around the world? Cremona is the birthplace of great string instruments. Here, the violins desired by the greatest musicians are created. They are jewels of acoustics and aesthetics, made in the many workshops that perpetuate the great tradition of the Amati, Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù families.

These instruments have left their sign around the world, as the extraordinary triennial lute-making competition and, above all, the violin museum reveal. It is a unique destination that attracts experts and enthusiasts of all nationalities.

Milan is also known for the great mastery of its instrument makers. Refined artisan technique and a profound musical culture are indispensable qualities that are needed to make and restore violins, violas, cellos, harpsichords and flutes for the joy of the most exacting musicians and collectors.

Artisan production of accordions and harmonicas is centred in Castelfidardo, in the Marche region. The traditionally popular instruments with their typical sound are famous around the world.

Naples is a city of pure musical spirit. The mandolin, for many a symbol of Italians, is played by unequalled experts here. Today, they represent the point of reference for all the concert musicians of the sector.

Aldo_Illotta_3s

The collective memory of the Abruzzo region cannot exist separately from its instruments, beginning with the bagpipes in its various forms (zampogna and cornamusa). Viterbo is a treasure trove for lovers of harpsichords and antique keyboard instruments.

Finally, guitars with a unique tone, created especially for musicians. Luthiers specialised in exceptional classical guitars are distributed from north to south, with some great masters in Piedmont and in the Molise region.

Birthplace of great artists, from the theatre to dance, Italy has many prestigious stages and many artisans with golden hands, truly masters of the needle and thread who make the marvellous stage costumes. With such exceptional materials, passion and fantasy, their creations seem to come to life directly from the world of fairy tales.
