Vigevano: the Archaeological Museum of Lomellina welcomes the Antonio Strada collection

09/02/2023 - 04/12/2023

More than 250 artifacts from the Strada family's Scaldasole castle have been restored and assigned to the Vigevano Museum by the Ministry of Culture. The nucleus, which brings together artifacts from prehistory to the Renaissance, documents both the territorial history of Lomellina and the collecting passion of the Strada family, which began at the end of the 19th century with the intention of protecting and enhancing the heritage "of antiquities of the homeland." In the Scuderie del Castello Sforzesco, home of the museum, objects of different materials are presented, with a clear predominance for those made of glass, intended for common, valuable or ornamental uses. One of the most valuable finds, discovered in Albonese, near Pavia, in the late 19th century, is a cup with handles, made of light green glass, intact and decorated in relief with acanthus leaves and vine shoots, the only intact specimen of the five known so far, bearing the signature of the master glassmaker Aristeas, active in the second quarter of the 1st century AD.   Museo Archeologico Nazionale della Lomellina Castello Sforzesco, Piazza Ducale, 20 27029 – Vigevano (PV) tel + 39 0381-72940 drm-lom.archeovigevano@cultura.gov.it www.museilombardia.cultura.gov.it
