A special project has been under way since early June at Florence’s Opera del Duomo Museum. It is a workshop on the art of carving and inlaying for young people in need. The initiative, carried out by the Museum’s educational department, is financed by Lions Club Firenze Bargello, under the direction and supervision of master carver Omero Soffici, with the help of Gabriele Maselli. The participants will be taught the techniques of these ancient arts to recreate a detail of the decoration (a capital) of the famous Sacrestia delle Messe, a masterpiece of intarsia by Giuliano and Benedetto da Maiano.
