Extended until April 4 “Mirabilia. A Wunderkammer to discover the Milanese art professions”

Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte and Triennale Milano start a collaboration on the theme of applied arts, presenting as the first event in the space of the Quadreria di Triennale the cycle of exhibitions Mestieri d'Arte e Design. Crafts Culture. Five exhibitions that propose a new point of view on contemporary art crafts. This partnership Mirabilia opens, an exhibition that brings together extraordinary objects of great Milanese artisans, between Renaissance heritage and contemporary high craftsmanship. About forty pieces have been chosen, representing the "secrets of the trade" of the artisan ateliers and manufactures present in Milan, produced in unique pieces with a deep artistic and cultural significance. Special and significant works, "goods", for which the value of handmade products evokes the centrality of artisan talent and the dialogue with the design creativity for which Milan is rightly famous. The exhibition is enriched by four precious Renaissance objects, lent by important cultural institutions, which are related to contemporary creation. Mirabilia therefore aims to federate, around the values of high craftsmanship, the main Milanese institutions linked to applied arts such as the Milan Foundation, the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, the Trivulziana Library, the Civic Collections of Applied Arts of Castello Sforzesco, the Civic School of Violinmaking of the City of Milan. The Quadreria will be set up and presented as a contemporary version of the Renaissance cabinet de curiosités: the works will be arranged in an ideal symbolic order, to obtain the result of astonishing and provoking wonder with sometimes surprising passages between one piece and another, to enhance the different scale of perception. The exhibition will be animated by guided tours, activities, meetings and concerts with musical instruments made by Milanese builders, in collaboration with the city institutions. www.mirabiliamilano.it
