It was presented last September 15 at the Museo Civico Archeologico in Milan on the occasion of The Italian Glass Weeks running until September 28, 2022. Gioielli di Vetro dalla Preistoria al III Millennio (Glass Jewelry from Prehistory to the Third Millennium) edited by Bianca Cappello and Augusto Panini is not only an elegant volume showing beautiful, unpublished or little-known jewelry, but it is, above all, a detailed history of jewelry through the centuries. Those ornaments, both precious and of extreme simplicity, document uses, customary customs, artistic choices, affinities with the figurative arts, up to the most daring design experiments in shapes and in the combination of different, sometimes unusual, materials. The journey among precious stones, natural or imitated with complex artifices since antiquity, the attention given to the techniques of working precious stones or pearls that enhance their value, unfolds through a careful selection of objects preserved in public and private collections. The art of jewelry is distinguished by the goal, which unites the long chronological space, of creating an ornament of great beauty, intriguing, and capable of sketching the character of the person wearing it, to the point of becoming a distinctive element of his or her personality.
