Fort Bard, a mighty 19th-century castle in the Aosta Valley, will be hosting the exhibit Il Déco in Italia, l'eleganza della modernità, until April 10th, 2023. More than 200 works, paintings, sculptures, ornaments, decorative arts and graphics, both illustrative and for advertising, showcasing the refined gracefulness of art deco. The exhibit recreates the Italian section of the Exposition International des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, featuring works that defined a decisive change in taste: favoring linear, geometric strokes emphasizing the essential nature of shapes and colors. The leading figures were Gio Ponti, Adolfo Wildt, Guido Andlovitz, Galileo Chini, Vittorio Zecchin, Umberto Brunelleschi, Giacomo Balla, Francesco Monni, and Umberto Brunelleschi, all of whom shared a common drive toward creating art destined to become a form of national expression, albeit manifested in their own distinct styles, subject matters and techniques portraying their different personalities.
