Artijanus/Artijanas: Genius Loci/Lo spirito dei luoghi

The 2023 edition of ArtiJanus/ArtiJanas, a project combining the cultures of international design and Sardinian craftsmanship, concluded in Alghero with a major festival entitled ArtiJanus/ArtiJanas: Genius Loci/The Spirit of Places. Promoted and supported by the Fondazione di Sardegna with the scientific and artistic direction of Triennale Milano and Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte, the ArtiJanus/ArtiJanas project aims to stimulate the sector to reinterpret its productions thanks to the contamination of design, in order to generate innovation and new development opportunities, as well as to ensure the future of traditional knowledge of great cultural and economic value. Under the artistic direction of Stefano Boeri, the operational direction of Innois s.r.l. and the organizational direction of Tools s.r.l., the festival was hosted by the Alghero Foundation at the spaces of Lo Quarter from Sept. 14 to 16, and involved a large audience of enthusiasts and experts in the field with a rich calendar of meetings, workshops, exhibitions, audiovisual installations, music, performances and networking moments. On the opening night, Stefano Boeri and Antonio Marras dialogued on the theme of creativity in the contemporary world. On the second day, Alberto Cavalli presented "Una Scuola, un Lavoro. Paths of Excellence," Fondazione Cologni's project aimed at fostering generational turnover in the field of high artistic craftsmanship, gave a lectio magistralis on the theme of the event "Genius loci," and discussed future prospects with Roberta Morittu - co-curator of the "AJA/AJA Residencies" - and the designers and artisans of the two editions. The festival concluded with a talk by Jean Blanchaert, gallery owner, curator and art critic. "The Genius loci, the spirit of different places that determines the identity and culture of the places themselves, should be understood as a real heritage composed of geographical, historical, cultural, anthropological and artisanal elements"-said Alberto Cavalli, general director of Fondazione Cologni. "Reactivating the characteristics of originality and authenticity of the Genius loci means offering the masters of art of today and tomorrow privileged access to a magnificent repertoire, to an imaginary that is always contemporary, to a vocabulary of poetry that speaks directly to our hearts through the talent and intelligence of hands."
