Vitrum. From sand to light, a history of glass from antiquity to Ivrea

The Pier Alessandro Garda Civic Museum of Ivrea presents, until June 13, 2021, an excursus on the art of glass: from archaeological evidence, in continuity with the museum's collection, to the present day. The exhibition entrusts the objects, of various periods, shapes and types, with the task of illustrating the variants of an ancient art that uses techniques that have remained unchanged over the centuries, while constantly experimenting with working procedures, colors and chromatic effects. A space is dedicated to the twentieth century Murano with works that illustrate the expressive potential of glass: from Vittorio Zecchin's thin and evanescent glass, to Napoleone Martinuzzi's vases that exalt sculptural solidity, to Carlo Scarpa's works, aimed at the search for a new synthesis between volume and color. A final section is dedicated to two contemporary Japanese artists, Tadao Ando and Yoichi Ohira, who propose innovative solutions, or interpretations of models from the past, renewing the intriguing charm of glass.
