Shoes, “scapini, pianelle and chopine” in the Venetian calli

The Venetian Civic Museums have presented a selection of lesser-known artefacts on the web, preserved in the various collections of the MUVE, which testify to the evolution of taste, fashion and daily customs, offering a focus on objects of the city’s craftsmen. These include shoes from various eras, preserved at the Correr Museum, Palazzo Mocenigo, the Study Centre for the History of Fabric, Costume and Perfume, designed by shoemakers (calegheri) and craftsmen working in leather, leather, soles and wood for clogs (patistari) or others specialising in imaginative and precious decorations, faithfully reproduced in paintings, which illustrate the daily customs of lords and common people.
