Perfumery art in Italian shops

Patrick Süskind wrote in his famous The Perfume: “Men could close their eyes to greatness, to horror, to beauty, and turn their ears to melodies or seductive words. But they could not escape the perfume”. It cannot be denied: the charm of perfume and its evocative power are incomparable. It is said that nothing stimulates the memory like a smell, able to recall the most remote sensations and memories.

But if the origin of perfume is lost in the mists of time, mixing essences and creating fragrances is a true art and Florence, in the Renaissance, was also the cradle of this noble craft.

It is well known that it was the great Catherine de’ Medici who introduced the use of perfumes to the court of France, and on the occasion of her marriage to Henry II of Valois, she brought with her trusted perfumer Renato Bianco (later Frenchified in Renè Le Florentin). An illustrious tradition that continues and is still renewed today in the city overlooking the Arno, in small temples dedicated to beauty, precious realities known and esteemed throughout the world.

Here you can find every kind of essence: perfumes, body cosmetics, potpourri and fragrances for the home. Exotic and not exotic spices, exquisite floral bouquets for men’s and women’s fragrances, precious personalized perfumes. “Noses” of international fame prepare their creations in these ateliers, perpetuating an Italian art that requires great sensitivity and know-how, as well as a touch of secrecy.
