Vitrea. Contemporary Italian glass

05/05/2021 - 22/09/2021

Triennale Milano and Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte continue their annual collaboration, aimed at presenting in the Quadreria space the cycle of exhibitions Mestieri d'Arte & Design. Crafts Culture, four exhibitions that offer an unprecedented point of view on contemporary applied arts. Vitrea, curated by Jean Blanchaert, proposes a journey through precious designer glass, created by international artists and made by extraordinary Italian master craftsmen, from Murano but not only. The works on display, different in technique, poetics and function, narrate the contemporary creative variety in the realization of glass: from sculpture to lighting, from figurative works to stained glass, in blown glass, in lamp glass, in solid glass, in glass fusion, in glass mosaic and mold, as well as works in which glass is combined with other materials, such as iron and wood. The Quadreria will once again be set up as a contemporary version of the Renaissance cabinet de curiosités: in Studiometria's project, illuminated by iGuzzini, the graceful transparencies of these objects, the perfect proportions (absolute forms), the lightness and virtuosity of the master glassmakers are celebrated and juxtaposed. A fortunate encounter, often telepathic, between hand and mind. An artistic vision and a manual know-how that the Cologni Foundation has always tried to identify, preserve and promote so that art professions can still speak the language of contemporaneity.
