The elegance of “Blu Zaffera” interpreted by contemporary artists

The Villa Caruso of Bellosguardo, in Lastra a Signa, near the outskirts of Florence, is hosting an exhibition until March 5th, 2023, developed as a partnership between the Montelupo Museum Foundation and the Villa Caruso Association. Sixteen artists have reinterpreted in a contemporary light the 15th-century technique of Zaffera. Decoration depicting stylized oak leaves enriched by a bright and deep shade of blue, acquired from cobalt oxide, that results in a striking visual and tactile sensation. Videos, an experimental performance, workshops and guided tours accompany visitors as they learn about the pastiness of Zaffera and its versatile expressive potential.
