Fifteen bags, part of the collection of the Domenico Michelucci Civic Museum of Straw and weaving in Signa, others donated or offered on temporary loan by private individuals, are the protagonists of the exhibition Sustainability at your fingertips. These are objects, together with hats, that distinguish the production of Signa and its territory, made of fine straw and natural fibres such as maize and raffia. Straw weaving was an art and a flourishing craft already in the 16th century, appreciated by the Medici family, and perfected in the 18th century with the specific cultivation of straw for hats. This resulted in a flourishing activity, well-known in Italy and abroad, which is still present today and adapted to new trends in taste. At the end of the exhibition, the Straw Museum will be moved to its new, recently restored premises in the city centre.
