Following in the footsteps of Kandinsky

26/02/2022 - 26/06/2022

Until June 26, 2022, at Palazzo Roverella in Rovigo, it is possible to visit the exhibition dedicated to Vasilij Kandinskij (1866-1944) which presents 80 works created by the artist between 1900 and 1940. Among the paintings there is also an oil painting on glass depicting Amazon with Blue Lions. The painting, kept in St. Petersburg, at the Russian State Museum, dates back to 1918 and combines the suggestion of Russian folk art to the fantastic fairy tales that had enchanted Vasilij as a child and that, later, he knew in Siberia, capturing the unreal charm of tales in the balance between reality and dreamlike fantasy. The amazon rides, in an unreal space, a horse that is outlined in detail, but is unusually is pink. In the background are depicted mountains, a villa, lions, trees, which in the apparent objectivity, become imaginary elements. The work is made with the technique of painting on glass, usually used for paintings with devotional theme, essential, but of strong emotional impact.
