Fine works stolen from churches, convents, but also from private Tuscan and Umbrian collections, are the protagonists of an exhibition set up in the hall of the Niches of Palazzo Pitti, made possible by the results of an educational laboratory conducted by the School of Specialization in Historical and Artistic Heritage of the University of Florence in agreement with the Carabinieri Unit for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and the Uffizi Galleries. They are fragments, pages, in groups or isolated, stolen but more often stolen with violence, torn and cut from manuscripts and illuminated liturgical books, the work of artists or workshops active from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century. The exhibition is presented as a succession of images and volumes that accompanied the annual religious rituality. The patient study of the researchers has made it possible to reconstruct the history of the tampered volumes, their origin and the historical and artistic context, as an example of synergic collaboration between the recovery and protection of the artistic heritage. Palazzo Pitti, Sala delle Nicchie until 4 October 2020 - Tuesday-Sunday 8, 30-13.30. +39 055 294883
