Lenci Ceramics. The collection of Giuseppe and Gabriella Ferrero and twentieth-century Turin

23/06/2023 - 31/12/2023

132 works by the Turin-based manufacturer Lenci were donated to the Royal Museums by collectors Gabriella and Giuseppe Ferrero. They are works made by various artists between 1928 and 1936. Beyond the variety of subjects and the aesthetic pleasantness of the figurines, the exhibition expresses the modernity of the European avant-garde and the solid references to the artistic tradition of Turin. A city that appreciated the "Style 1925," an emblem of the liveliness of the changes in the rapidly changing society capable of appreciating the ironic refinement of those ceramics, intended for an emancipated bourgeoisie participating in an international and cosmopolitan artistic culture. The permanent collection, now presented with the exhibition Ceramiche Lenci. La collezione di Giuseppe e Gabriella Ferrero e la Torino del Novecento (Ceramiche Lenci. The Collection of Giuseppe and Gabriella Ferrero and Twentieth-Century Turin), is placed in open dialogue with a selection of paintings and sculptures from the Twentieth-Century collection of the Galleria Sabauda, for an in-depth study of Turinese figurative art between the two wars.
