Setsuko, an internationally renowned Japanese painter, presents her exhibition Into the Trees II at the Gagosian gallery in Rome. The artist, who has lived in Rome for a long time and currently combines the tranquility of the mountain landscape in Switzerland with the liveliness of the Paris atelier in Astier de Villatte, where she creates her works, creates sculptures in earthenware covered with milky white glaze. They depict vine, pomegranate, chestnut, olive, oak and magnolia woods, and from those gnarled, seemingly barren trunks emerge leaves, flowers and berries, clear signs of rebirth and the regenerative force of nature, interpreted with the artist's signature sensibility, which creates an exchangeable balance between Japanese and Western cultures.
