The Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche (MIC) in Faenza dedicates an exhibition to the ceramic art of Galileo Chini, presenting about 300 works, many from private collections, some previously unpublished, and a selection of drawings and preparatory cartoons. In eight sections a path is traced through works that illustrate the formal, technical and decorative succession of an artist who was the creator of the renewal of Italian ceramic art in a chronological span between 1896 and 1925: years that mark Galileo Chini's approach to Art Nouveau art, sometimes applied to vases of Renaissance style, with the intention of maintaining a firm link with tradition without neglecting the innovative impetus, and then welcoming, with autonomous choices, the solidity of the Deco style. For Chini that crucial period coincided with the start of the Manifattura l'Arte della Ceramica in Florence and his participation in the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris in 1925, fundamental events in the history of ceramics and artistic culture of the 20th century. through May 14, 2023 MIC, Viale Baccarini 19 Tel +39 0546 697311 mail: info@micfaenza.org www.micfaenza.org
