Fausto Melotti’s ceramics in Lucca

The exhibition, which has just opened in collaboration with the Fausto Melotti Foundation and the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche di Faenza (MIC), will be on view until June 25 in Lucca at the headquarters of the Ragghianti Foundation. An articulated itinerary illustrates the ceramic work of Fausto Melotti, an artist who contributed to the renewal of Italian art and the applied arts of the 20th century, deserving to emerge from the confines of the "minor arts," as Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti observed as early as 1948 in the catalog of the NY exhibition Handicraft as a fine art in Italy. To underscore this costly objective, the ceramics of Fausto Melotti (1901-1986) are placed in comparison with works by other contemporary artists and designers in order to trace and understand the broad panorama of the artist's activity. The exhibition is divided into four sections with unpublished or little-known documents, a film, and a wide selection of works tracing the phases of the Melotti galaxy, between scientific rigor and formal harmony.
