Turandot e l’Oriente fantastico di Puccini, Chini e Caramba

08/07/2021 - 29/08/2021

The Fondazione Museo del Tessuto di Prato dedicates the exhibition Turandot e l'Oriente fantastico di Puccini, Chini e Caramba, to the suggestion of Orientalism in the first decades of the 20th century. The sets, theatrical dresses, ornaments and stage jewelry are those used in Giacomo Puccini's Turandot, from the collection of soprano Iva Pacetti, designed by costume designer Luigi Sapelli, better known as Caramba. There are also some oriental objects conserved at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology, donated by Galileo Chini in 1950, which, at the beginning of the 1900s, represented the fascination of the exotic. It was Chini himself who conceived the set design for the theatrical premiere of the unfinished opera, staged at the Teatro della Scala on April 25, 1926. The musical direction was entrusted to Arturo Toscanini. The collaboration of the Archivio Storico Ricordi of Milan has made it possible to present the original poster of the opera, which has become an icon of attention to oriental art, in a synthesis of reality and scenic fantasy.   On Thursday, July 8, 15, 22 and 29, at 9 p.m., there is a free guided tour of the exhibition for the sole cost of the museum entrance fee. Reservations required.
