Francesco Salamanca sells his creations and is renowned the world over, but probably the idea of becoming a master puppeteer came to him when he was a child, and collected empty tin cans between the market stalls to use them to learn the craft. The elderly puppeteer Emilio Musumeci helped him learn his technique and spirit, welcoming him in his own workshop. While teaching the techniques of puppet-making, he told him of the epic deeds of the crusaders from France. Aware of the importance of passing on traditions, today Francesco Salamanca has created the Cultural Association Arte e Pupi (Art and Puppets) that organizes events with the old Sicilian master craftsmen.
