Studio d’Arte di Marcello Aversa

It was by working terracotta at his father’s company, a small factory in Sant’Agnello producing bricks since the 16th cen- tury, that Marcello Aversa discovered his passion for Nativi- ty scenes and began creating small masterworks: by using a stick and a pin, he moulds his terracotta figurines ranging from 10 cm to the amazing size of 8 mm. He has created his own genre, with the scenery and figurines forming a single block which is baked at 920°. Among the subjects are scenes from the Old and New Testament, but also rituals and cus- toms of the Sorrentine Peninsula. His works have been show- cased in Italy’s major art cities, as well as in Brussels, Madrid and Vatican City. They are permanently displayed at Venice’s Scuola Grande di San Teodoro, at the Cathedral of Sorrento and at the Nativity Scene Museum in Mollina, Spain. A crafts- man with golden hands, halfway between matter and spirit.
