Glass sculptures in Tolentino

A careful selection of works in glass, designed by the most famous, internationally renowned artists of the 20th century, and realized in the "La Fucina degli Angeli" glassworks in Venice, is present in the exhibition Transparenze d'autore.Sculture in vetro di grandi artisti, on view in Tolentino (Macerata) until 29 September at the Spazio Politeama. The Venetian glass factory was founded in the early 1950s by Egidio Costantini and was later given the name of "La Fucina degli Angeli” (the Angels’ Forge) by Jean Cocteau. It was a place where artists, including Jean Hans Arp, Jean Cocteau, Max Ernst, Lucio Fontana, Oskar Kokoschka and Pablo Picasso worked together with master glassmakers, combining experimentation, creativity and harmony in the delicate transition between the design and the realization of the sculptures. Familiarity with the ancient techniques of the art of glassmaking made it possible to exalt the volume and the transparency of glass and to accentuate chromatic contrasts. The extraordinary concordance of intentions has made the work of that artistic movement unique.
