EventsFrom March 23 to June 4, Palazzo Medici Riccardi will host the first stop of the travelling exhibition MARKKU PIRI – GLASS & PAINTINGS which, after Florence, will be held in Rome at the Carlo Bilotti Museum, housed in Villa Borghese’s Orangery, and then in Venice, at the Murano Glass Museum. Markku Piri, born in 1955, is a Finnish designer, stage designer, painter and versatile and prolific artist whose work has been showcased in a number of solo exhibitions at art galleries and museums in Finland and other countries, and in the exhibition The Spirit of Paradise in 2011-2012, which was held in Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Berlin and Washington DC. The exhibition shows 90 works, artistic glass creations, including large-sized installations created with the help of Murano’s best-known master glass-makers and of the artists of the Finnish cooperative Lasismi; 15 works, silk-screen prints and paintings revolving around the theme of nature and architecture; and printed cotton and linen fabrics, designed on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence, representing Finnish subjects.
