The prestigious venue of the San Domenico Museums in Forli hosts the exhibition The Art of Fashion. The Age of Dreams and Revolutions. 1789-1968, which traces the changes in the taste and art of clothing, both women's and men's, over a period of time between two emblematic dates: 1789 and 1968. It traces a path from the clothes of the Ancien Régime, preceding the French Revolution, to the severe elegance of the nineteenth century, to the frivolity and daring boldness of the twentieth-century avant-gardes until a rapid turnover of changes coinciding with the late 1960s. 1968 was the fateful ridge that marked the revolution of customs, mores and ways of life. The dresses on display, in an elegant setting, confront paintings that place them in their era and social context, and document the attention of well-known artists to innovative designs and decorative elements as designers and couturiers experimented with new sartorial cuts, in an innovative harmony between body and dress. It is a richly evocative exhibition that illustrates the changes in society, beauty and elegance with refined charm.
