It may seem unusual to juxtapose opera with glass. In reality, the power of song and the breath of master glassmakers give rise to works with subtle affinities: the intensity of musical notes is combined with the plasticity or delicacy of glass. This is the theme of the Glass and Opera exhibition set up at Casa Goldoni in Venice in the spaces of a museum that recalls all the charm of that city, evoking suggestions that glass objects amplify. The 20 artists who took part in the event, included in the celebrations of the International Year of Glass, interpreted with personal languages the link between opera and glass, drawing inspiration from characters and sets of famous theatrical dramas or iconic subjects; such as the goblets of numerous toasts, so much so as to accentuate the expressive potential of the glassy material that, processed in various techniques, gives life to musical modulations.
