The art of scagliola is a traditional method of creating imitation marble and semi-precious stones. It is, thus, the art of creating inlaid works by mixing colored pigments, natural glues and selenite powder with water. It is a technique that became very popular in the 1600s and enjoyed a revival in the 1940s thanks to Bianco Bianchi, a ministry employee who spent ten years working on the perfect scagliola mixture formula. His children now run the workshop and create new items, restore antique pieces and teach the scagliola technique. The workshop houses a museum featuring the world’s greatest collection of antique and restored scagliola pieces. One-of-a-kind pieces decorating the world’s most beautiful houses.
