Liuteria Calace

Between the 18th and 19th centuries, Naples was consid- ered to be one of the European capitals of music. The roots of the Calace luthier’s workshop are firmly plant- ed in this prestigious tradition. It has been making plectrum instruments – mandolins, mandolas, mand- aloncellos and the liuto cantabile, known and popular all over the world – since 1825. The heir to this legend- ary dynasty is Raffaele Calace, the great-grandson of the founder, Nicola Calace, and nephew and namesake of the composer, musician and luthier known as the ‘Paganini of the Mandolin’. Master Raffaele Calace has received many recognitions, including the prestigious acknowledgement MAM-Maestro d’Arte e Mestiere by Fondazione Cologni.
