Based in the heart of Gubbio, this historic workshop has been creating pottery for over 50 years by using the ancient Etruscan technique called bucchero, a traditional method rediscovered by Antonio Maria Rossi and now skillfully carried on by his son Gaetano. Every piece, which is made on a wheel, is polished with wood to give it a shiny grey-colored surface. The surface is then punched to form graffiti which are filled with liquid gold. Once the decoration is completed, the piece is immersed in wood coal and hermetically sealed in an oven at 900 degrees for about 12 hours. This special firing technique causes the gold to settle and gives the artifact its typical black color.
